Guru Peyarchi (Transition of Guru):-

Any transition, be that of Guru or Saturn or the dreaded snakes, Mandaveli Tirupura Mami advises primary prayers to be offered to the first and foremost of all Gods, the remover of all obstacles, Lord Ganesha.
Guru Peyarchi will take place on 30-June-2002 as per the astrological rules of "Thiru Vakkiam". Guru is transiting from Mithuna Rasi to Kataka Rasi. Though the transition of Guru happens every year, this year this event is important as Guru gets exalted or glorified in Katakam. Similarly the transition of Guru from Dhanus to Makaram is also important, as Guru gets debilitated in Makara Rasi.
Mami says as per the ancient rules of astrology (Artha Sastra), rasis which are situated on the 5th, 7th and 9th positions from that of the Guru's residence will enjoy the maximum benefits. During this transition, Guru resides in the Kataka rasi and thus Vrichikam becomes the 5th house, Makaram becomes the 7th house and Meenam becomes the 9th house.
Mami imposes what Lord Ganesha practised. Parents are a person's first Guru. Thus it is advised that devotees take the blessing of their parents, in-laws and other elders. Offer prayers to the pithrus and seek their blessings.
Yellow is the colour of Shree Guru Bhagwan, so Mami advises devotees of all religions to sport yellow attire on Guru peyarchi day, which is considered auspicious.
Predictions for each star along with temples-to-be-visited are listed below. Mami has given predictions for Christian devotees too. Christians are advised to light nine yellow coloured candles at the altar of the Saviour Jesus Christ or at the altar of Mother Mary. Offer sincere prayers to your Gods for a smooth sailing of this year.
People living abroad or people who are unable to visit the shrines can offer worship to Lord Guru at their residences. There are several temples in India with shrines devoted to Guru Bhagawan. Apart from these temples, Mami had suggesed another special temple on this occasion. One such shrine of Guru is situated in the ancient Chozha temple of Kayaroganneshwarar at Kancheepuram. Predictions for each Nakshatram:-

Kettai:- A very comfortable period is cited for the natives. The art of converting good opportunities to money-vending avenues depends upon the hard work of the natives. Uthiradam:-
Natives will enjoy a peaceful period. Spiritual awareness will redeem the natives from mental agony. The religious faith will save the natives from fear of future. They enjoy peace of mind. Worship God Anjaneya, Goddess Shakthi, God Nadikeshwar and also Lord Shiva at Tiruvannamalai. Also offer prayers to Guru and Dakshinamurthy. Reciting Thevaram songs will help in attaining happiness.

Poorattathi:- Natives may not have great advancements, and the transition period isn't bad. Blessings will be showered in abundance, but always in disguise. New Trust Board takes charge:-

The new trust board took charge of the temple today i.e., 4th Decemmber, 2008 at 11.00 a.m. Earlier, the HR&CE administration haded over the charge of the temple on 3rd., December at 6.30 p.m. to Shri S.Muthu, Senior Trustee. Later the entire trust board with Shri P. Thilak Kumar, Shri P. Ekambaram, Shri C.R. Palanidoss and Shri C.G. Lakshminarayana as the other trusatees in line took their respective charges as assigned by the temple heirarchy.
Shri S. Muthu, Senior Trustee took over the charge of the Vasantha Mandapam Trust at 1p.m.

Bhakti is eternal!

The son of Lord Parameswara is Kumaraswamy. He is also called as
Skandha, Subrahmanyeswara, Kartikeya and Subbaraya. Margasira Suddha
Sashti is celebrated as Subrahmanya Sashti. On this day, if one
observes fasting, perform puja to Subrahmanyeswara, offer food and
clothes to a bachelor, will attain goodness to the house. This year
it falls on 3.12.2008.
Subrahmanya Stuti, which is otherwise called Subrahmanya
karavalambam, is given below. This is also called Swaminatha
Karavalambam.

Who wears armlet, ear rings and strong armour,
and who is the valorous one who killed Tharaka,
and was saluted by the groups of devas.

with the chanting of the holy five letters,
with the bathing of the holy water of Gang,
after strengthening it further by holy chants,
and who was anointed with the five holy nectars,
by very learned and holy sages.

kamaadi rOga kalushiikruta dushTa cittam,
siktvaatu maa mava kaLaadhara kaanti kaantyaa,

Who is known as Karthikeya, who with his,
fully nectar like looks of mercy cures,
passion, diseases and mind which has made been dirty
Who is the treasure house of arts and
Who shines like billions of suns.

SubrahmaNyashTakam puNyam yeh paThanti dwijOttamaaha,
tey sarvE mukti maayanti subrahmaNya prasaadataha,
subrahmanyaashTaka midam praatarutthaaya yah paThEt,
kOTi janma krutam paapam tatkshaNaadEva naSyati.

The twice born who reads this octet on Subrahmanya,
would attain salvation by the grace of Lord Subrahmanya,
and for him who reads this octet on Subrahmanya, as soon as,
he gets up in the morning, the sins committed in billons,
of previous births will vanish in a second.

It is also said that by praying Lord Subrahmanya, one can get rid of
Kujadosha.

lOhitO lOhitaakshaSca saamagaanam krupaakaraha,
dharaatmajah kujO bhoumE, bhuumadO bhuumi nandanaha.

If one goes to Navagraha or Subrahmanya temple on every Tuesday for
seven days and pray God by narrating the above Sloka, he/she will be
free from Kuja dosha. Lord Subrahmanya is also considered to be the
reliever of Naga dosha. As such, one should pray God with the
following Sloka.

Shri Subramanya Bhujangam (in English) Slokam

This powerful mantra was written by Shri Adi Shankara. When Adi Shankara visited the shore temple of Lord Subramanya at Thiruchendur, he fell into a trance and the entire stanzas flowed from him. It is said that the Lord was so pleased with the mantras, words of devotion that came from Adi Shankara, that Lord Subramanya appeared, as stated in the mantra, in front of Adi Shankara. Devotees reciting this mantra will be rid of debts, sufferings and disease. Whoever recites this mantra will attain health, wealth, longevity, wisdom and heavenly abode.
1. sadA bAlaroopApi vighnAdhi hanthri, mahAdanthi vaktrApi panchAsyamAnyA
vidheendhrAdhi mrigyA gaNeshAbhidhAme, vidhatthAm shriyam kApi kalyANamurthi
Though He always sports the appearance of a child, He can crumble the mountains of obstacles. Though He is elephant-faced, He is honoured even by his five-faced father Shiva (sadyojaatam, vaamadevam,aghoram, tatpurusham and iishaanam). Lord Brahma, Indra and the other Devas seek him to fulfil their aspirations. He is known as Ganesha and He is endowed with boundless glory. May He bless me with prosperity!
2. na jAnAmi padhyam, na jAnAmi gadhyam, na jAnAmi shabdam, na jAnAmi chArttham
chidekA shadAsyA hridhi dhyothathe me, mukhAnis saranthe giraschApi chitram
I know not the science of musical sounds, I know not the meanings of complex texts either, I know not the nature of slokas made of four types of padaas, nor do I know the intricacies of the gadhyam style! But in my heart, shines an effulgent light with six luminous faces, and because of that, from my mouth, amazing phrases with musical tone and meanings pour out in extempore.
3. mayUrAdhiroodam mahAvAkyagUdam manohArideham mahachittageham
mahIdevadevam mahavedabhAvam mahadevabAlam bhaje lokapAlam
O Son of Mahadeva! Seated on the peacock chariot, being the essence of the great maha vaakyaas, having wonderfully attractive body, dwelling in the heart of great sages, O the quintessence of four Vedas! Thou are indeed the Lord of the Universe.
4. yadhA sannidhAnam gathA mAnavA me, bhavAm bodhipAram gathAsthe thadhaiva
ithi vyanjayan sindhutheere ya aaste, thameede pavitram parAshaktiputram
O Lord Subramanya! Son of spotless Parashakti [the Mother of the Cosmos], Thou have taken your abode near the sea shore Tiruchendur as if it is an indication that whenever the devotees take refuge in Thee, they can easily cross the ocean of samsara (the eternal cycle of life and death) and reach the other side of the shore safely!
5. yathAbdhes tharangA layam yAnthi thungA, thatthaivA padha sannidhou sevyamAne
itheevormi panktheer nrinAm darshayantham, sadA bhAvaye hrithsaroje guham tham
The waves of worries that haunt the minds of the devotees get destroyed like the waves of the ocean when they hit the shore; Thou stands on the sea-side town of Tiruchendur exemplifying this truth that the mental worry-waves get destroyed when the devotees surrender themselves at Thy feet. O Lord Guha (one who resides in the cave of the heart)! I meditate on you always!
6. girou mannivAse narA yedhi rUdA, thadhA parvathe rAjathe thedhirUdA
itheeva bruvan gandha shailAdhirUdah, sadevo mudhe me sadA shanmukhostu
O Lord Shanmukha! Thou stands on the top of the Sugandha hill, proclaiming that whenever the devotees climb this hill it will give the same benefit as climbing the king of mountains (Kailas)! May the six-faced Lord on the Sugandha hills remain there to bless me!
7. mahAmbodhitheere mahApApachore, muneendrAnukoole sugandhAkhya shaile
guhAyAm vasantham svabhAsA lasantham, janArthim harantham shrayAmo guham tham
On the shores of the great ocean which steals away the sins of the devotees, stands the Sugandha hills, the most favourable site for the sages to perform their penance! Thou resides there to destroy the worries of the devotees! O self-luminous Lord who is present in the cave of the heart! I adore Thee!
8. lasat swarna gehai nrinAm kAmadohe, sumasthoma sanchanna mANikya manche
samudyath sahasrArka thulyaprakAsham, sadA bhAvaye kArtikeyam suresham
In a radiant golden bedroom, on a cot set with rubies and covered on all sides with sweet smelling flowers, Thou art seated with the effulgence of a thousand suns! Thou art the answer to every desire of the heart and Thou fulfils the righteous desires of Thy devotees! Thou art the Lord of Devas and son of the Lord of the universe! O Kartikeya I meditate on Thee!
9. raNat hamsake manjuleth yanthashoNe, manohAri lAvaNya peeyusha poorNe
manash-shatpadho me bhava klesha taptha, sadA modathAm skanda te pAda padme
Let the mind (like a bee) which is burdened with domestic troubles become happy by hovering around Thy lotus feet which is adorned with the jingling ringlets made of rings and beads, red in color indicating grace, filled with the nectar of beauty which attracts the minds of the devotees.
10. suvarnAbha divyAm barodh bhAsa mAnam, kvaNath kinkiNi mekhalA shobha mAnam lasad dhemapattena vidhyotha mAnam, katim bhAvaye Skanda te deepya mAnam
Oh! Skanda, I meditate on Thy waist which is covered by a gold coloured cloth, shining with a string of ringing bells and beads, wearing a shining gold belt over the golden silk cloth, and which is by itself self-resplendent.
11. pulindesha kanyA ghanA bhoga thunga, sthanA linganA saktha kAshmeera rAgam
namasyAmyaham tArakAre tavorah, svabhaktA vane sarvadA sAnurAgam
Oh! conqueror of Tarakasura! By embracing Valli's (hunter's daughter) well-developed breast ornated with saffron, Thy chest became red coloured, thereby manifesting your eternal grace towards devotees.And such a chest I adore.
12. vidhou kluptha dhandAn svaleelA dhri thAndAn, nirasthebha shundAn dvishath kAladhandAn
hathendhrAri shandAn jagatrAna shoundAn, sadA te prachandAn shraye bAhu dhandAn
Oh! Shanmukha! Thy arms punished Brahma, Thy arms govern the world as Thy play; Thy arms killed Soorapadma and other demons who are enemies of Indra; Thy arms are matchless in protecting the Universe, and Thy arms are a terror to Thine enemies.I worship Thy twelve arms which do all these things effortlessly.
13. sadA shAradA shan mrugAngkA yadhisyu, samudyantha eva stthithAsh cheth samanthAth
sadApoorna bimbA kalankaishcha heenA, tadA tvan mukhAnAm bruve Skanda sAmyam
What can I compare to Thy six faces! If there be six full moons free from blemishes and if those moons be ever shining on all sides, even then they would be no match to your effulgent faces.
14. sphuran mandahAsai sahamsAni chanchath, katAkshA valeebhringa sanghojvalAni
sudhAsyandhi bimbA dharANi shasoono, tavA lokaye shanmukhAm bhoruhANi
Oh! Son of Parameshwara, I see Thy six smiling faces shining like a group of swans, having gleaming side glances ever moving like a row of bees and with red lips overflowing with nectar.
15. vishAleshu karNAntha dheergesh vajasram, dayAs yandhishu dvAdha shas veekshaNeshu
mayeeshath katAkshas sakruth pAthi tashcheth, bhavethe dayAsheela kA nAma hAni
Oh! Son of Parameshwara! Oh Merciful Lord! When Thou hast twelve broad long eyes extending upto ears, what will Thou lose by casting that side glance for a moment (on me)?
16. suthAngodhbhavo mesi jeevethi shad dhA, japanmantra meesho mudhA jigrathe yAn
jagad bhAra bhridbhyo jagannAtha thebhya, kireeto jvalebhyo namo mastakebhya
Oh! Lord of the Universe! I offer my prostration to Thy six heads wearing crowns with brilliant rubies which protect the welfare of creatures, which were smelt by Parameshwara with joy uttering six times the mantra "Child Thou were born of me, May Thou live long."
17. sphuradh ratna keyoora hArAbhi rAma, chalath kuNdala shri-lasadh kandabhAga
katou peethavAsA kare chArushakti, purasthAn ma mAsthAm purAres thanooja
Oh Kumara! Son of Lord Parameshwara (who destroyed Tripura)! With garlands of brilliant rubies on Thy shoulders and chest, with bright cheeks shining with pendants dangling from Thy ears, wearing silk garment around Thy waist, and with Vel in Thy hand, Oh! Lord appear before me (It is said that Lord appeared before Acharya when he sung this stotra)!
18. ihAyAhi vatsethi hasthAn prasArya, aah-vayath-yAdha-rAch-shankare mAthu rankAth
samuthpathya thAtham shrayantham kumAram, harAshlishta gAthram bhaje bAlamoorthim
When Lord Shankara called Thee affectionately with arms extended, Thou hurriedly rose from Mother's lap and rushed into Shankara's arms who embraced Thee affectionately.I meditate on such a Lord Kumara.
19. kumAresha soono Guhaskanda senA, pathe shaktipAne mayUrAdhirUda
pulindhAthmajA kAntha bhakthArthi hArin, prabho tArakAre sadA raksha mAm tvam
Oh Kumara! Oh Son of Lord of the Universe! One who shines in the cave of the heart as Guha! Oh Skanda! Oh Lord of the Devas' Army! Oh Wielder of the weapon Vel which is the svarupa of Parashakti! One who rides on the peacock chariot! Oh Beloved of the Hunter's daughter (Valli)! Destroyer of the sins of your devotees! Enemy of Tarakasura! Oh Lord protect me!
20. prashAn thendriye nashta samngnye vicheshte, kaphod kArivaktre bhayoth kampi gAthre
prayANon mukhe mayyanAthe thadhAneem, drutham me dhayALo bhavAgre guham tham
Hail Guha, Dayalo.During the last moments of my life, when I will have lost control of my senses, when I will have lost consciousness, when I will be unable move my limbs, when I will be emitting foam of phlegm, when my body will be trembling with fear of death, when I will have none to protect me, Thou must hasten to give me darshan then.
21. krithAn thasya dhooteshu chandeshu kopAth, daha chindhi bhindheethi mAm tharja yatsu
mayUram samAruhya mAbhairi thitvam, purash shakti pAnir mamAyAhi sheegram
Oh! Lord, when ferocious messengers of the God of Death come to torture me angrily shouting, "Burn him, Kill him", Oh! Lord Thou must hasten to appear before me, riding on your peacock, carrying Shaktivel, to encourage me not to be afraid.
22. praNam yAsa kruth pAda yosthe pathitvA, prasAdya prabho prArthaye (a)nekavAram
na vaktum kshamoham thadhAneem krupApdhe, na kAryAnthakAle manA gapyu pekshA
Oh Merciful Lord! I am prostating to Thy feet often to secure Thy blessings. Oh treasure house of mercy! I offer prayers to please Thee. Thou should not be indifferent towards me during my last moments. At that time I may not have the control and energy to pray to Thee!
23. sahasrAnda bhokthA tvayA ShooranAmA, hathas tArakas simhavaktrascha dhaitya
mamAnthar hridhistham manaklesha mekam, na hamsi prabho kim karomi kva yAmi
O Lord! Thou hast slain the demon Soora who ruled the thousand universes! So were the demons Taarakasura and Simhavaktra. But Lord,why have you not killed the demon called mental worry which haunts my mind? When it is afflicting me, what will I do? And where will I go [other than you for help]?
24. aham sarvadA dukkha bhArA vasanno, bhavAn deenabandhus tva dhanyam na yAche
bhavadh bhaktirodham sadA kluptha bAdham, mamAdhim drutham nAsha yo mAsuta tvam
Oh Son of Uma! I am always troubled by the mental worries.Thou art the friend of helpless! I approach none but you for saving me. Quickly destroy my mental worries as they interfere with my devotion towards Thee!
25. apasmAra kushta kshayArsha prameha, jvaronmAdha gulmAdhi rogA mahAntha
pishAchAshcha sarve bhavatpatra bhoothim, vilokya kshanAth tArakAre dravanthe
Oh Conqueror of Taraka! Severe epilepsy, leprosy, consumption, lung diseases, venereal diseases, fevers, mental diseases of all types, they run away the moment they see Thy vibhuti contained in a leaf.
26. drishi skandamoorthih shrutou skandakeerthih, mukhe me pavitram sadA tach- charitram
kare tasya krityam vapus tasya bhrutyam, guhe santu leenA mamA shesha bhAvA
Always may I have before my eyes the murthi of Lord Skanda! Always let my ears hear only the praises of Lord Skanda! Always let my mouth sing the praise of Lord Skanda! Always let my hands be of service to the Lord! Always let my body be a servant to the Lord! Let my limbs, thoughts and actions be devoted to Skanda!
27. muneenA muthAho nriNAm bhakti bhAjAm, abheeshta pradhA santhi sarvatra devA
nriNA manthya jAnAm api svArtha dhAne, guhA devam anyam najAne najAne
In all the worlds there are Devas to grant the boons of sages and great bhaktas. But for the lowly and ordinary devotees, I know not of any other Deity to protect them except Guha!
28. kaLathram suthA bandhuvarga pashurvA, naro vAtha nAree gruhe ye madheeyA
yajantho namanthah stuvantho bhavantham, smaran thascha te santu sarve kumAra
Oh Lord Kumara! Let my wife, children, relatives, friends, other men and women in our household, venerate Thee! Praise Thee! And always be absorbed in Thy thoughts!
29. mrigA pakshiNo dhamshakA ye cha dushtAs, tathA vyAdhayo bhAdha kA ye madhange
bhavacchakti teekshnAgra bhinnAs sudhoore, vinashyantu te choorNitha krouncha shaile
Oh! Destroyer of Krauncha Shaila! Let every thing that troubles my body, birds, beasts, insects, severe diseases, be pierced by Thy powerful weapon Vel and taken far away and destroyed.

Do not the parents overlook the faults of their children? Oh! Chief of the army of Devas! I am a small child. Thou art the Father of the Universe.Oh Mahesha! Forgive all my faults.

suputrAn kaLathram dhanam dheergamAyuh, labheth Skanda sAyujya manthe narrassah.
That holy devotee, who prostrates to Lord Guha, reciting the Bhujanga stotra daily, with devotion, will be blessed with good sons, good wife, wealth and long life, and at end of his life, will attain eternal bliss with Lord Skanda.

Sri Subramanya Dhyanam:-

Subramanya or Karthikeya is the son of Siva and Parvathi. Other common names of Subramanya are Muruga, Kumara, Skandha, Shanmuga and Guha. Created out of the six sparks from the central, third eye, of Lord Siva, for the special purpose of destroying the demon Soorapadma, Lord Karthikeya has six faces adorned with red vermilion and he rides on a divine peacock. He is supremely intelligent and is the commander of the Deva army. The Vel (spear) is His Divine weapon; it is also regarded as the source of all knowledge and is the dispeller of ignorance. He is the curer of all diseases.
According to legend, Karthikeya explained the esoteric significance of "OM", the Pranava Manthra, to His father, Lord Siva. Krithika and Sashti are auspicious to Karthikeya. Thai Poosam, Panguni Uthiram, Vaikasi Visakam and Kandha Shashti are popular festivals for Subramanuya.

Lord Subramanya has two consorts, Devasena, the celestial princess and daughter of Indra, and Valli, Nambirajan's (a hunter king) daughter. His major shrines are known as "Aaru Padai Veedu' namely Palani, Swami Mala, Thiruthani, Thiruchendur, Pazhamudircholai, and Thiruparankundram.

SKANDA SASHTI

PROSTRATIONS and humble salutations to Lord Subramanya, the Supreme Being, who is the ruler of this universe, who is the indweller of our hearts, who is the second son of Lord Siva, who is the beloved of Valli and Deivayanai, who bestows boons easily on His devotees, who is the embodiment of power, wisdom, love and bliss.

The great demon, Tarakasura, was oppressing the celestials. He drove them out from heaven. All the gods then went to Brahma to appeal for help.
Brahma said to the gods, "O Devas, I cannot destroy Taraka, as he has obtained My Grace through severe penance. But let Me give you a suggestion. Get the help of Cupid, the God of Love. Induce him to tempt Lord Siva, who remains absorbed in His Yoga Samadhi. Let Lord Siva unite with Parvati. A powerful son, Lord Subramanya, will be born to them. This son will destroy the demon that harasses you."
Indra, the chief of the gods, thereupon requested Cupid to go with his wife, Rati, and his companion Vasanta (the season of spring), to Mount Kailas, the abode of Siva. Cupid carried out the instruction at once, for it was already springtime. Standing behind a tree, Cupid shot his arrow of passion towards Siva, whilst Parvati was placing some flowers in His hands. The moment their hands met, Siva experienced a distracting feeling. He wondered what it was that disturbed His Yoga. He looked around and saw Cupid crouching behind the tree.
The Lord opened His "third eye", the inner eye of intuition, and Cupid was burnt to ashes by the fire that emanated from it. That is why the God of Love is also called Ananga, which means "bodiless".
After burning Cupid, the Lord ascertained by His Yogic vision that the birth of Lord Subramanya was absolutely necessary to destroy the powerful Taraka. Siva's seed was thrown into the fire which, unable to retain it, threw it into the Ganges, which in turn threw it into a reed forest. This is where Lord Subramanya was born; hence, He is called Saravanabhava--"born in a reed-forest". He became the leader of the celestial hosts and the destroyer of Taraka as Brahma had ordained.
Lord Subramanya is an incarnation of Lord Siva. All incarnations are manifestations of the one Supreme Lord. Lord Subramanya and Lord Krishna are one.
Lord Krishna says in the Gita: "Among the army generals, I am Skanda".
The Lord manifests Himself from time to time in various names and forms, for the sake of establishing righteousness and subduing wickedness.
Lord Subramanya is a ray born of the Divine Consciousness of Lord Siva. Valli and Deivayanai are His two wives. They represent the power of action and the power of knowledge respectively. He is a Godhead easily accessible in this dark age of ignorance and lack of faith. In this He is no different from Hanuman. He gives material and spiritual prosperity and success in every undertaking of His devotees, even if they show a little devotion to Him. He is worshipped with great devotion in South India. Lord Subramanya's other names are Kumaresa, Kartikeya, Shanmukha, Guha, Muruga and Velayudhan.
In His picture, Lord Subramanya holds a spear in His hand, just as Lord Siva holds the trident. This is an emblem of power. It indicates that He is the ruler of the universe. His vehicle is the peacock. He rides on it. This signifies that He has conquered pride, egoism and vanity. There is a cobra under His feet, which indicates that He is absolutely fearless, immortal and wise. Valli is on His one side, Deivayanai on the other. Sometimes He stands alone with His spear. In this pose He is known as Velayudhan; this is His Nirguna aspect, which is free from the illusory power of Maya.
The six heads represent the six rays or attributes, namely, wisdom, dispassion, strength, fame, wealth and divine powers. They indicate that He is the source of the four Vedas, the Vedangas and the six schools of philosophy. They also indicate His control over the five organs of knowledge as well as the mind. They denote that He is the Supreme Being with thousands of heads and hands. His head turned in all directions signifies that He is all-pervading. It indicates that He can multiply and assume forms at will.
Lord Subramanya's temples can be seen in Udipi, in Tiruchendur, in the Palani Hills, in Ceylon, and in Tiruparankundrum. Lord Subramanya spent His days of childhood in Tiruchendur and attained Mahasamadhi at Kathirgamam. If you go to Kathirgamam with faith, devotion and piety, and stay in the temple there for two or three days, the Lord will grant you His vision. You will get rich spiritual experiences. A huge festival is held in the temple every year on Skanda Sashti. Thousands of people visit the place. Massive amounts of camphor are burnt on this occasion.
Skanda Sashti falls in November. It is the day on which Lord Subramanya defeated the demon Taraka. On this day elaborate festivals are held with great pomp and grandeur. Devotees organise Bhajan and Kirtan programs on a grand scale. Thousands are fed sumptuously. Many incurable diseases are cured if one visits Palani and worships Lord Subramanya there. In South India, the Lord's Lilas are dramatized on the stage.
In addition to the Skanda Sashti, devotees of Lord Subramanya observe weekly and monthly days in His honour. Every Friday, or the Kartigai Nakshatram day every month, or the sixth day of the bright fortnight,--all these are sacred days for His devotees. The sixth day of the month of Tulam (October-November) is the most auspicious of them all. This is the Skanda Sashti day.
In many places the festival commences six days prior to the Sashti itself and concludes on the day of the Sashti. During these days, devotees recite various inspiring hymns and read stories connected with Lord Subramanya. They worship the Lord and take Kavadi. They go on pilgrimage to the various Subramanya shrines.
The Tirumurukatrupadai has been composed in His praise by the famous Nakkerar. He who studies this eminent work daily with devotion and faith, gets certain success in life as well as peace and prosperity. The Tiruppugal is another well-known book in Tamil, which contains the inspiring devotional songs of Arunagirinathar in praise of Lord Subramanya. The Kavadichindu songs are also in praise of the Lord. The Skanda Sashti Kavacham is another famous hymn in praise of Lord Subramanya and is sung particularly on festive occasions.
Perhaps the most potent propitiatory rite that a devotee of Shanmukha undertakes to perform is what is known as the Kavadi. The benefits that the devotee gains from offering a Kavadi to the Lord are a million-fold greater than the little pain that he inflicts upon himself.
Generally, people take a vow to offer the Lord a Kavadi for the sake of tiding over a great calamity. Though this might, on the face of it, appear a little mercenary, a moment's reflection will reveal that it contains in it the seed of supreme love of God. The worldly object is achieved, no doubt, and the devotee takes the Kavadi; but after the ceremony he gets so God-intoxicated that his inner spiritual being gets awakened. This is also a method that ultimately leads to the supreme state of devotion.
The Kavadi has various shapes and sizes, from the simple shape of a hawker's storehouse (a wooden stick with two baskets at each end, slung across the shoulder) to the costly palanquin structure, profusely flower-bedecked and decoratively interwoven with peacock feathers. In all cases the Kavadi has a good many brass bells adorning it and announcing it as the Kavadi-bearer draws it along. As the Kavadi-bearer very often observes silence, the bells are the only eloquent signs of a Kavadi procession.
The two baskets hanging at each end of the Kavadi contain rice, milk or other articles that the devotee has vowed to offer the Lord. The more devout among them, and especially those who do it as a Sadhana, collect these articles by begging. They travel on foot from village to village, and beg from door to door. The villagers offer their articles directly into the basket of the Kavadi. The Kavadi-bearer continues begging until the baskets are full or the avowed quantity is reached, and then offers the Kavadi to the Lord. Some keen devotees undertake to walk barefoot from home to one of the shrines of Lord Subramanya, bearing the Kavadi all the way and collecting materials for the offering. He has to walk a hundred miles sometimes! The people who place the articles in the baskets also receive the Lord's blessings.
The Kavadi-bearer is required to observe various rules between the time he takes up the Kavadi, and the day of the offering. He has to perform elaborate ceremonies at the time of assuming the Kavadi, and at the time of offering it to the Lord. He also puts on the dress of a Pandaram, a Saivite mendicant. It consists of a saffron-coloured cloth, a conical scarlet cap, and a cane silver-capped at both ends. Lord Siva, the Supreme Pandaram Himself, loves to wear this dress. The Pandaram lives on alms only. The bare chest of the Kavadi-bearer is covered with several rudraksha malas.
The Kavadi-bearer observes strict celibacy. Only pure, Sattwic food is taken; he abstains from all sorts of intoxicating drinks and drugs. He thinks of God all the time. Many of the Kavadi-bearers, especially those who do it as a spiritual Sadhana, impose various forms of self-torture. Some pass a sharp little spear through their tongue, which is made to protrude out of the mouth. Others may pass a spear through the cheek. This sort of piercing is done in other parts of the body also. The bearer does not shave; he grows a beard. He eats only once a day. The spear pierced through his tongue or cheek reminds him of the Lord constantly. It also prevents him from speaking. It gives him great power of endurance.
The Kavadi-bearer enjoys a high state of religious fervour. He dances in ecstasy. His very appearance is awe-inspiring; there is divine radiance on his face. Devotees often experience the state of feeling union with the Lord. Sometimes the Deity enters them and possesses them for some time.
The Agni-Kavadi is the most difficult offering. With the Kavadi hanging on his shoulder, the devotee walks through a pit of burning coals. Hymns are sung in praise of the Lord by those assembled all around the pit. Drums are beaten and incense is burnt. The entire atmosphere is awe-inspiring. The true devotee enters into ecstasy and easily walks over the fire.
At the Sivananda Ashram in India, Skanda Sashti is observed for six days, preceding and including the Sashti day. Devotees of Lord Subramanya live on milk and fruit and do rigorous Sadhana. They get up at 4am during Brahmamuhurta and meditate on the Lord.
On each of the six days, all the participants do Japa of the Mantra, Om Saravanabhavaya Namah, as much as possible. They even greet one another with this Mantra.
Yogis and learned scholars deliver lectures on Subramanya Tattwa, or the divine sport of the Lord. During the evening Satsang, hymns in praise of Lord Subramanya are sung. Readings are taken from my book, Lord Shanmukha and His Worship. Devotees sing inspiring songs on the Lord.
An elaborate ceremonial worship is performed daily to the sacred image of Lord Subramanya. On the last day a grand havan is performed. The evening Satsang is devoted entirely to the adoration of Lord Subramanya.
Pray from the bottom of your heart: "O my Lord Subramanya, O all-merciful Lord, I have neither faith nor devotion. I do not know how to worship Thee in the proper manner, or to meditate on Thee. I am Thy child who has lost his way, forgotten the goal and Thy Name. Is it not Thy duty, O compassionate Father, to take me back? O Mother Valli, will you not introduce me to Thy Lord? Thy love for Thy children is deeper and truer than that of anyone else in this world. Though I have become Thy worthless and undutiful child, O beloved Mother Valli, pardon me! Make me dutiful and faithful. I am Thine from this very second; always Thine. All is Thine. It is the Mother's duty to correct, educate and mould Her reckless child when it strays aimlessly on the wrong path. Remove the gulf or the veil of delusion that separates me from Thee. Bless me. Enlighten me. Take me back to Thy holy feet. I have nothing more to say. This is my fervent prayer to Thee and Thy Lord, my beloved and ancient Parents."

Panchabhootha Sthalangal in Chennai !

There are Pancha boodha sthalam equivalents in Chennai at the heart of the city which are considered very powerful and they are:
1) Kalahasthi temple at Pavalakara (Coral Merchant) street, near Mallikeswarar temple, Mannady representing Air
2) Arunachaleswara temple near Lakshmi Amman Koil stop in Thiruvotriyur bus route representing Fire. There is one more Arunachaleswarar temple at the end of Palliappan street (George town).
3) Gangadareswarar Temple, Purasawalkam representing Water
4) Chidambaranatha (Nataraja) temple near Choolai Post office representing Sky and
5) Ekambareswara Koil at Mint representing Earth
